Decoration

Like the last dress, there are not many trimmings on these early dresses, but you have scope to add some lace or ribbon at the small sleeve caps and at the wrist cuffs. I used the same colour lace as the background fabric for my dresses rather than having a contrast, to give it a more subtle look, but if you want these small decorative features to be more prominent and seen from a distance (perhaps for theatrical purposes), you could try using a contrasting colour. The front fastening of the bodice also gives you a little more opportunity for decoration than the previous dress. Choose some small delicate buttons, but lots of them. They can be covered in the same fabric as the dress, relatively plain, or decorative and contrasting. Compare the white buttons on the white dress with the pearly buttons I used on the brown printed cotton dress.
